I love the look of this but what do you call it? The Bedroom or the bath? What if you get the bed wet? Is this practical? What do you think?

I know a few women that would find those spaces pure heaven. You know, the kind of women who takes a bath every night with their glass of wine and then goes straight to bed. I like dual purpose rooms but, I don't think I would be a fan of a tub in my bedroom.
I think it would be great as a guest room, especially if it was the only way to give them their own bath area. It would probably work in a cottage as well.
Great staging but would defenitely not do it.
I like the idea of it...
but I think I'd get pretty twitchy about the spotless cleanliness of my tub, and that negates the potential relaxation of taking all those bubble baths. ;)

Maybe in a guest house or loft--but only practical if you lived by yourself.
All I can concentrate on is those white wood plank floors getting ruined by water damage!

Years ago... when I was in design school, I had designed an open concept bedroom and bathroom combination for bedroom project we were assigned. The teacher told me it wasn't appropriate to have the bathroom open in that way (the toilet was private). Just like in another class where we were working on kitchen designs and I designed my bases with a plinth base rather than the usual toe kick... again, I was told that was not appropriate. To me, designing is about exploring all options... I'm glad I did not listen to those teachers... ~Terri
not really for me, but it reminds me of the bath in the Sixx Design episodes. and there are rooms at the Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale that use the same concept. which I think would be okay, cuz it's just at the hotel.
it's so interesting to read the comments from so many who don't like the bath in the bedroom... because, it's my dream! my husband and i dream of a spacious master bedroom with a copper slipper tub near a large window...

This is so funny because I had decided to do this in one of the bedrooms of MY house... We have a 2nd bath that needs remodeling and it is like a bathroom on a train!!!!!! I need another tub and there is a big window with plenty of room right in front of the bathroom door and I want to put a tub there......It would overlook grove of trees.......Great post.Maryanne :)

it slightly weirds me out, but I think it looks cool. we designed a bathroom that was connected to the bedroom via a short arched hallway (no door) recently, that's about as far as I could go.
When we were house hunting a few months ago, we looked at a house that had a bath right next to the bed and ON CARPET! I just didnt understand. .. firstly I felt like i could roll out of bed in the night into the bath and secondly, you are going to get water everywhere! Especially with me who likes a bath filled right to the brim! I think having a bedroom with an open bathroom next door is better.

This is my husband's dream. I like the second better - having the bath off to the side - however, the first has that wood stove tucked beside it. Imagine a cold winter night, running a hot bath, glass of wine, stepping out of the bath into a warm robe and then collapsing into bed... hm. This may now be my dream room too. Having this setup would also be conducive to conversing and relaxing at the end of the day with my spouse. Much better than having a t.v. in the bedroom. Very practical, very sensual, private while being wide open.
