I am considering this.. I love the look of dark painted doors on and interior! I was thinking of trying it on the doors that lead to our bedroom but I feel like if I do one set I have to do them all (which is obvious) but I just wanted to test it out. I love that these look like a dark grey not entirely black. What do you think? Do you have dark doors? Do you want them? Do you love them?

Very elegant effect. The trick with dark paints on doors is to use really good paint though, as a shoddy finish is far more obvious than in a pale colour. If you love it, go for it. If you don't like it, it's pretty painless to change it back.

actually just made the decision to do mine after staying at the Ashton in Fort Worth. The doors looked amazing!! My house is old with wonderful detailed solid wood doors. I'm stumped with what color of hardware to use--brass (or nickel) looks the best but I am using bronze on the off white painted windows. Opps! did I just make a huge mistake? What hardware should I use? Is it ok to mix?
Yes! Yes, The grey doors would be striking. I had dark doors in one house and I loved them but the entire style of the house was cohesive with them.

I don't know if I would want all my doors in a dark color in my house. I would be afraid that it would get old after a while.

I think this comes under the heading nothing to lose - why not try one and live with it a few days first?
I love the very dark colours but found them hard to get, so bought a solid black as well and mixed them together (this was in the days before Farrow & Ball). It gives you much more choice of hue.
Love these! I've been thinking about painting the doors in our hallway dark too, maybe F & B's Down Pipe. I painted our two French doors in the family room BM Mysterious and I really love it.
We had all our doors painted a satin black several years ago. I never tire of them. They look so sophisticated and stately. I replaced all the knobs with Emtek Crystal knobs and they look fabulous on the black. The house is circa 1923, so we used polished brass, and with the black, they look great. I would do it again!
We have black French doors in our dining room leading out to the back yard. We love them! When they are closed they are nearly invisible, bringing the outdoors in. They open outward and really do open the space beautifully.
We are renovating our cabin in the mountains. I ebonized a pine board and batten wall in the living room, then, using Restoration Hardware's "Obsydian" (off black) painted the kitchen cabinets.
Tomorrow I am painting the bedroom doors "Obsydian" as well.
These are stunning......it's undertones read brown/grey softening them up and depending on how the light reflects them they seem to be so rich and dramatic without being too cold. LOVE. Go for it.
I have been painting my interior doors black little by little. It is a scary commitment (yes you can change them back, but not without a lot of hassle)....
APPLICATION, prep work and paint will make a huge difference. The darker the color the higher the gloss the more chances you will see brush marks (overlapping and such)....You can have them sprayed locally as well to avoid this. Oil paint is gorgeous to work with (would take the doors off the hinges). It self levels, which is nice (I recently painted my cabinets a similar color to this in oil, lots' of work, but totally worth it). Be sure to sand between coats.

Ironically I was contemplating the same choice just last night! This is my sign to do it. I was at a friend's house in Lake Forest last month and she had painted the doors of her David Adler house a dark high gloss navy with brass hardware and it was stunning. That being said, I think I will go with an off black...thanks for helping me make up my mind!
Gorgeous color combination! Adding the touch of grey makes a huge difference and I'd like to find out the wall color ~ it's so soft and compliments the doors. I am upgrading my kitchen and I've changed my colors up a bit thanks to all my blog friends.

I just did it last week in preparation for a party at my home. I love the sophisticated look it gave throughout and got many compliments. I'm over the moon with my decision. I knew it was a one woman job so I painted them hung and the finish is surprisingly perfect. Let me know if you would like pics or tips.
